Houthaven

The invited competition tasked participant architecture studios with designing a mixed-use development on the Ponsteiger Pier in Houthaven in Amsterdam.
The project required 250 apartments, 20,000 square feet of commercial space, and 300 parking spots.
Rather than a single, massive structure, the design concept focused on creating a “mini bay” system—an interconnected complex featuring diverse housing types all connecting living in different ways to the water. This approach not only enhances architectural variety but also establishes a distinct identity for the development, making it a defining landmark in the area’s revitalization.

Gregory Martínez de Riquelme worked on the project during his tenure at Archi-Tectonics New York.
