Grand Piano Bauhaus

The renowned piano manufacturer RUD. IBACH SOHN commissioned Archi-Tectonics to design a new grand piano for exhibition at the BAUHAUS in Weimar, Germany.

Gregory Martínez de Riquelme’s study of the grand piano’s form revealed a disconnect between its top view and its side and front views—an aspect that had remained unchanged for centuries.
His redesign unifies these perspectives by translating the piano’s fluid top view into a cohesive three-dimensional form.
The result is a seamlessly flowing body that maintains and even enhances the piano’s acoustic properties. Additionally, the accompanying seat is integrated into the design, fitting like a puzzle piece.

Gregory Martínez de Riquelme developed this project during his tenure at Archi-Tectonics in New York.
